Students for Life at Gretna HS

Hello everyone,

I just received this e-mail from Kristan, the SFLA President.

At the beginning of this school year, Bridget Christensen, a junior at a public high school just outside of Omaha, Nebraska, tried to get her Students for Life club approved by Gretna High School. She wanted the have the same opportunities to reach students hosting meetings and events that everyone could attend just like any other school-based club.

But you know what she was told?

The school said the Students for Life club was too “political,” too “controversial” and “religious.” When Bridget pushed back and said that her pro-life club wasn’t political or religious and that the school already allows a Gay-Straight Alliance club, school administrators said that the pro-life issue was “too close” to being controversial, political and religious.

Even after sitting down to meet with her administrators and making her case, Bridget’s school is still refusing to allow her to start her Students for Life. They are denying her constitutionally-protected free speech rights and are discriminating against her because she wants to start a pro-life club.

Bridget is being treated like a second-class citizen because she is pro-life.

So yesterday, our attorneys today sent a demand letter to the school superintendent, Dr. Kevin Riley, and other school administers, informing them that they are infringing on Bridget’s free speech rights and demanding they approve the Students for Life club or face possible legal action.

Instantly, the news outlets picked up on our story with TV and radios interviews and numerous press articles. Last night, I even saw an article with the Nebraska ACLU Director defending Bridget!

Bridget is only 17-years-old but she is fearless! She is a perfect example of the Pro-Life Generation we are raising up throughout our nation.

Today, I need your help! Students for Life is putting pressure on the school with the demand letter and through the media, but we want the school to know that Bridget has a huge support system.

Can you call the Gretna High School Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Riley and tell him to approve the Students for Life club so that Bridget can educate her peers on this crucial issue of abortion?
His phone number is 402-332-3265.
Let me know what Dr. Riley says, and I will update you as soon as we know anything further!

For Life,

Kristan Hawkins
President, Students for Life of America

Please help me support our fellow student and activist, Bridget, by calling and letting her school know she's not alone!  Remember to keep her in your prayers as well.

For life,

Sarah
SFLLV President
